In partnership with the Cabaret Sauvage and the Festival des Confinés (Paris), Orientalys will be the first to present an original concert by Souad Asla, the diva of the Sahara, a leading new-generation artist from southern Algeria. A native of the Béchar region, this heir to Gnawa tradition refuses to let the cultural heritage that helped shape her wither away. She is reactivating it energetically, erasing the lines between the sacred and the profane and eliminating boundaries of gender and space as she plays chamber and outdoor music on stage. Her voice takes us to the gates of the desert, from where she followed Hasna el Becharia, but her music, rich in blended styles, is continuously renewed and reinvented. Souad Asla takes spiritually infused Bedouin and Berber traditions and makes them resonate with communicative zeal.
