Description

(Morocco, Quebec, Brazil)

Ma’alem Fathallah & Zuruba

After its great success at the 3rd Orientalys, the creation “Transe-fusion” returns in a renewed version that will be premiered live on your screens! A show that holds moments of great excitement in store, with Gnawa ritual trances set to frenetic South American beats!

In an unbridled performance, Gnawa master Ma’alem Fathallah and his musicians intoxicate the public with the pulsating beats of krakeb (Maghreb castanets) and the magic melodies of their sacred ritual! Originally practised by former black slaves for therapeutic purposes, Gnawa rituals have been nurtured over the centuries by African animist cults, Berber beliefs and Islamic spirituality. Though this musical style has more of a “world” aspect nowadays, it remains rooted in a tradition that is alive and well!

With the participation of the Zuruba Afro-Brazilian percussion band, blending rhythms and instruments from Africa and Brazil, the evening promises to be explosive. Join the masters of the brotherhood for a colourful, emotion-filled evening that is both profane and sacred!
